The LINKS, Inc.
At UPT, we are excited to work with the women leaders of The Links, Incorporated. This dynamic and committed group of women work with our StreetLeader team through the school year by providing programming designed to enhance and nurture their educational goals. The Links, Inc. joined us last year to begin a five year commitment to implement their DREAM to Succeed program with the StreetLeaders at UPT. This level of commitment and intention is important and speaks volumes to the heart of the The Links, Inc., Central New Jersey chapter and their passion for service.
“Our overall goal is to provide experiences that will assist the StreetLeaders in planning for their future success by helping them to be able to articulate their post high school plans by developing their own individual action plan.” explains Linda Kornegay, who is tasked with organizing programming with UPT.
“The teens love The Links, and each program they offer is so different, they are always learning something from the women of The Links.” said StreetLeader Director, Elyse Smith. “Their goals for our StreetLeaders go hand in hand with our mission. We are grateful to The Links and hold them up as powerful role models.”
The Links, Inc. have use varied programming in their commitment to our StreetLeaders. Last year, several students went to the United Nations in observation of International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, a thought provoking experience for the students. Other programming has included an exercise in “self-branding”, using well known marketing campaigns to engage our StreetLeaders in thinking about how they want to present themselves to the world.
Ms. Kornegay shared that, this February, presenters from NAMI, in addition to their main presentation, will also provide information on various careers related to the mental health field. They will also incorporate information on decision making skills and making positive choices leading to future success.
